GfK, a market reserach firm revealed these interesting stats about current and upcoming trends for the TV industry:
estimated growth of global LCD TV shipments is expected to fall from 12% recorded in 2011 to 7% in 2012, totaling 225 million units according to the market research firm GfK.
Growth momentum for 2012 is to come from emerging markets as demand from mature markets including the US and Europe will subside
Sales of LCD TVs in the China market are expected to top 46 million units in 2012, with Korea- and China-based branded TV vendors strong contenders in the market, according to industry sources.
One company that should be paying very close attention to this trend is Samsung Electronics (one of the leading brands in China) which recently reacted to this prediction by saying they vowe to ship over 50 million LCD TVs globally in 2012.
But, Domestic brands in China, like TCL, Skyworth, Hisense, Konka and Changhong, have been expanding their market share at an alarming rate, with TCL alone shipping over 10 million TVs in 2011, the sources noted.
TV manufactuing companies are apart of a very competitve industry and your sucess is highly based on brand image and consumer preference. Consumers are very opinonated and require a lot of third party reviews when choosing a TV brand to purchase which only adds to the competitiveness of the industry.
There are many different characteristics that you may desire when choosing a TV brand to purchase. One consumer may prefer a LCD TV from Sony because they produce a higher quality LCD TV then Panasonic, while another consumer may prefer Panasonic becuase they offer a better plasma TV. There are so many different technologies and types of TVs that can be produced that it creates a need for many different companies producing generally the same product. Consumers can choose a TV that specefically satisfies their individual wants and desires from a TV manufacture if they have many options to choose from. If TV manufactures explore ways to expose each of their advantages over another it will create a need for more brand options to choose from in each country from consumer interest.
“Would you like a proposal with your order?”- Pizza Hut's $10,010 Valentine's Day Package
Pizza Hut’s “$10,010 Ultimate Valentine’s Day Proposal in a Box” campagin was just launched this week in which customers can purchase a wedding proposal package at Pizza Hut. It was designed for Pizza Hut’s current Valentine’s day promotion .
The $10 Dinner Box Proposal Package Includes:
Ruby Engagement Ring: a stunning ruby stone flanked by shimmering diamonds
Fireworks: a perfectly-timed fireworks display will vault this proposal into the record books
Photographer: photos taken of the happy couple before, during and after the moment
Videographer: capturing video of the moment she says “yes”
Most Importantly Your………
$10 Dinner Box: which contains “a medium one-topping rectangular pan pizza, five breadsticks with marinara sauce and 10 cinnamon sticks with a sweet icing cup in one box.”
To me this strange and unique promotion from Pizza Hut is a bad attempt at trying to be creative and unique. I cant imagine any women being impressed by someone proposing to her at a quickservice restuarant like Pizza Hut. In my opinion this campaign is not relevent to Pizza Hut’s typical consumers and this campaign should of never been launched. In order for a promotional campaign to work it needs to be highly associated and appealing to your targeted consumer segments. Not one person in the world would associate Pizza Hut-a quickservice restaurant operating in the pizza industry with romance and weddings? so why did Pizza Hut follow through with this promotion?
Catfish is a great movie that shows how impactful Social Media can be
I recently watched the motion picture Catfish and was quite suprised how great of a movie it was. I felt that Catfish was a unique and innovative movie that offers viewers an amazing example of how infactuated and impactful social networking on platforms such as Facebook is on our society. I recommend everyone checking out this movie, its a unique and fresh concept for a movie that I think everyone can appreciate. Catfish is a relevent and up to date movie that is also a great example of movie studios adapting to changing trends and views.
Plot: Catfish is a story about a women from a remote part of Michigan in the city of Ishpeming. Through the social media tool Facebook she was able to create many personas. This dramatic and elaborate fantasy life lures in a young photographer from New York City to further investigate her and her painting prodigy daughter. He then becomes so enthralled with this women and many people in her life that he travels to the remote area where she lives to answer his many questions about who these people are and what they are really like. When he gets there what he finds out is the last thing he ever expected.
Takeaway: The movie Catfish shows the high impact social media has on our society and how powerful social media tools can be. You can create a perceived image by engaging interactions with a wide range of viewers through an interconnected network of people (viewers). Maintaining social media tools helps you communicate characteristics/features and gives a visual image to that can be used to form a perception for anything.
Super Bowl Rising Cost for 30 Second Advertising Spot
This year it was estimated to cost $35 million for a 30 second advertising spot for Super Bowl XLVI in 2012! Another astonishing stat was the record setting 111.3 million total viewers Super Bowl XLVI generated! No wonder so many large corporations are willing to dish out the big bucks to advertise in the Super Bowl. This is an enormous audience and only time will tell if these advertisements will develop into increased profits and brand awareness.
Revenue, profitability numbers, mind blowing usage metrics, and the even more astonishing take-home pay of some of their employees all revealed in Facebooks S-1 form that was just recently released. I think its a great move that Facebook is deciding to go public. Facebook is a very powerful and useful company that has been continually growing since it started and shows no signs of slowing down. Many stats and data revealed in their S-1 form are absolutely astonishing! One such stat is that mobileaccounts for half of Facebook’s user base at approximately 425 million active monthly users. This data just proves how much consumer trends have changed over the years. We are truly in the digital and mobile era. Consumers are constantly living a on the go lifestyle due to the hectic lifestyles of Americans. Our mobile phones are a key element in making it possible for Americans to efficiently maintain their hectic lifestyle. I know without my iPhone it would be very hard to maintain my hectic life. I especially use my iPhone to maintain my social media platforms like Facebook. To me its just easier to update and view my Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr page on my mobile device. Mobile devices provide a clean and simple version of programs that are visually appealing to viewers. To me this is the main reason why 425 million users including myself choose to view Facebook on a mobile device.
What social media tool do you use the most? (Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Foursquare, Tumblr)
Tony Corsini:I would say that Twitter is my most used social media tool. I view my twitter feed every morning when I wake up to get the latest news on a very wide variety of subjects from snowboarding companies like Burton to marketing analysis companies like HubSpot. My Twitter feed is a lot like the morning newspaper for many other Americans. Twitter also is a great place for me to find key industry and consumer stats in order to excel in my career. With out a doubt Twitter has definatly made information more available to me, resulting in my life running more efficient. Key information is made available to me by selecting the right Twitter accounts to follow that best relate to where my life is and where it is headed. Straight to the point information is highly desired from me due to the hetic lifestyle associated with me and my associated generation cohort (Generation X).
Over the weekend I decided to go visit one of my favorite local craft beer breweries. The Royal Oak Brewery was established in 1995 and is conveniently located at 215 E. Fourth Street, which is right off of Main Street in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan. The other brewery/restaurant that is owned by this same brewery is the The Detroit Beer Co. located in downtown Detroit on Broadway Street. Both of these breweries are great places to go if you’re looking for quality hand crafted Michigan beers while also offering a great tasting menu ranging from a variety of different foods made with the highest quality ingredients. There are some differences between these 2 breweries, but they are generally the same (a full review on The Detroit Beer Co. is coming soon).
As soon I entered the Royal Oak Brewery I noticed how busy it was and the fact that everyone seemed to be in a happy mood and having fun. The atmosphere in this brewery is GREAT! This is a place where you can really feel relaxed and be friendly with everyone. It has a home town vibe to it that is hard to produce from non brewery bars. I find this a great change of atmosphere compared to how other bars like Doc’s Sports Retreat and Bar Louie give off. The decor and layout of the brewery is well kept and gives off a classy look to it, and the food is of the highest quality using the freshest ingredients. Taking a date to this brewery would be a great activity to do with that special someone. I ordered the Angry Polynesian and tried the Snowdrift Winter Ale and the Royal Oak Red craft beers.
Top 4 Menu Items:
1. Hair of the Dog
2. the Angry Polynesian
3. the Hangover
4. Korean Tacos
Located right next to the Royal Oak Brewery is Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle. This creates the great opportunity to make a fun night for anyone. Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle features many big named comedians making appearances as well as new up and coming comedians both local and national. I personally have seen the comedian Dave Attell who hosted the highly successful Comedy Central show called Dave Attells Insomniac twice at the Comedy Castle in Royal Oak and was very pleased with the venue, price, and the whole show. Many of the local comedians that came on before the main act were just as good!!! I would recommend checking out the Mark Ridleys Comedy Castle on any night!
Tony’s Suggestion: A great idea for a date night would be to take that special someone to dinner and drinks at the Royal Oak Brewery then follow it up with a comedy act at the Comedy Castle. This can also be a great idea for you and a group of friends to do.
ESPN’s annual winter extreme sports competition is happening this week (Thursday the 26th- Sunday the 29th of January) Some new elements are being added to this years competition in hopes to increase viewer attendance on television. One of the main changes to this years Winter X Games is that the Slopestyle event will now be taking place at night. Normally this competition is held during the day. What this means is now the slopestyle competition is going to be televised during prime time. Slopestyle is one of the most entertaining events that takes place at the X Games and should be put into the spotlight with the other main events that ESPN and ABC televises. Some drawbacks from moving this event to the night time is that riders will have to deal with more difficult conditions than seen during the day on the course. The night time brings cold weather, creating icy conditions and faster speeds from the athletes. So tune in on Saturday the 28th at 8pm to find out if the decision to move the slopestyle event to night time was a good idea or not.
My name is Tony Corsini and I’m a 24 year old living in Livonia Michigan. I attend the University of Michigan- Dearborn’s College of Business and will be graduating summer 2012 with a B.B.A in Marketing. I enjoy all things involved with marketing, especially advertising and promotional activities. One of my favorite marketing classes I have taken so far at U of M- Dearborn is the current class I am entitled Marketing 463: Digital Analytics & Content Management. This is truly a relevant and revolutionary class for college students. Digital marketing is taking over and shows no signs of stopping. This class helps me and fellow classmates better understand this social media era our world is moving into. Its about time there are updated classes to go with the current times and situations that are current. I think every school should offer this course, so everyone go talk your school about creating a digital marketing program for students to take.
